Tunnel Transfer is packed full of gross and fine motor skills- and itβs so much fun!
Materials:
- Tunnel or chairs and a blanket (for a DIY version)
- Loose parts or small toys
- Small bowl
- Recycled box or plastic wipes container
Instructions:
Set up a tunnel in the center of a room or create your own by arranging two rows of chairs facing each other and place a blanket over the seat part to make your own. Gather a few loose parts or small toys and put them in a small bowl on one end of the tunnel. On the other end, place a recycled box with a small opening cut in the top or an empty plastic wipes container. Crawl through the tunnel, transferring 1 loose part from the bowl to the other end. Use fine motor skills to drop the item into the box or container. Crawl back to the other side and repeat!
What are they learning?
- Gross Motor- Builds strength, coordination, and balance of large muscles.
- Fine Motor- Builds strength and coordination of small movements in hands to pick up, squeeze, twist, cut, and manipulate tools and toys.
- Listening (Receptive Language)- Understands and interprets language (both words and gestures). Communicates or acts in response to language and verbal cues.
