Cardboard threading is a simple fine motor challenge that’s perfect for little hands.
Materials:
- Thin, cardboard (like a cereal box)
- Hole punch
- String or yarn
- Clear tape
- Scissors- adult
Instructions:
Cut a piece of thin, cardboard into an oval shape. Then, use a hole punch to create holes along the perimeter of the oval. Secure a piece of string to the cardboard shape by tying it through a hole and measure how much string you’ll need by lacing the string through each hole. Trim the string to the proper length and place a small amount of tape around the tip of the string to make it easier to thread and more durable. Unthread the string and guide your child on how to push the string through first, then pull it tight until they’ve completed the oval on their own.
Extension- Create a few smaller cardboard shapes (like a square, heart, triangle, etc.) to thread instead of one large shape.
What are they learning?
