Search the room and collect all the hidden letters!
Materials:
Instructions:
Prior to the activity, create a ten frame on the floor using painter’s tape (a rectangular grid with 2 rows of 5). Next, write the first letter of your child’s name on 10 sticky notes and hide them around the room (on the wall, on furniture, anywhere slightly hidden but visible). Search the room for each hidden letter and place each one in a section of the ten frame until you’ve found all 10 hidden letters. Continue to identify the letter sound and name often- “You’ve found /r/ R behind the pillow!” or “Only 2 more /r/ R’s left!”
Extension- Expose your child to both uppercase and lowercase letters. Include 5 sticky notes with the lowercase letter and the other five uppercase.
Tip- Ten frames are magical little tools to help kids learn about number sense, counting, understanding place value, and more! Your child will use ten frames throughout their elementary school journey and we can start building the foundation at home!
