Fill each envelope with craft sticks in this simple math activity.
Materials:
Instructions:
Gather construction paper in three different colors (choose colors that match the craft sticks you have). Cut each piece of construction paper in half along the short side- you only need one half of the paper for this activity so save the other side for another day. Fold the construction paper in half again, leaving some space on the top, and use a stapler to close each side to create a pocket envelope. Number the front of the envelopes 1-3 using a marker then attach the envelopes to the wall in a row using painter’s tape.
Collect the number of colored craft sticks that correspond with the color envelopes (for example, if envelope 3 is red, you’ll need 3 red craft sticks). Start by sorting the craft sticks in each envelope by color, then counting the total amount in each envelope. Then, ask your child to put 1 craft stick in envelope 1 and focus on counting aloud as each craft stick is placed in the envelope.
