Match the letter on the alphabet gems to find it’s home!
Materials:
- Small rocks (or glass gems or dry lima beans)
- Permanent marker
- Muffin pan
- Dot sticker
- Bowl
Instructions:
Collect 6-7 rocks, glass gems, or dry lima beans. Choose letters to focus on (starting with the letters in your child’s name and then high frequency letters- s, a, t, p, i, n, c, g, m, k, d). Write the letters you’ve chosen on the rock using a permanent marker and place them in a bowl.
Next, write the letters again on a dot sticker and place the dot stickers on the bottom of each section of a muffin pan (it’s okay if you have empty spots in your muffin pan, just leave them empty). Choose an alphabet rock, identify the letter name and sound and find it’s matching spot in the muffin pan to find it’s “home.” Repeat until all the alphabet rocks have been matched.
Extension- For an added challenge, write lowercase letters on the alphabet rocks and write uppercase letters in the muffin pan. Match the lowercase letter to it’s corresponding uppercase letter.
What are they learning?
